Ha Long Bay is such a gorgeous lake. Many people recognize it by the over 1.6k limestone islands and inlets you see in photos. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 and you’ll see for yourself why when you go.
Weather
For the best weather, visit between March and May or September to November.
Getting to Ha Long Bay
You can get to Halong Bay by a number of different ways. Bus, taxi, motorbike, ferry, or helicopter if you’re feelin’ bougie. The drive takes less than four hours from Hanoi, and many of the cruises will offer to take care of transportation for you.
Recommendations
The best way to see Ha Long Bay is by taking a cruise. We booked a two day, one night cruise through Dragon Legend and it was great. Two days is plenty of time in my opinion.
To Do
Cat Ba Island: Biggest island in Halong Bay area.
Cat Ba National Park: Tons of animals.
Floating Villages: Cua Van, Vung Vieng, Cong Dam and Ba Hang.
Hang Sung Sot Cave: Lots of cool stone formations, many of the cruises will take you here.
Dinner in a cave: some cruises will offer this, so could be worth looking into!
Diving: tons of underwater grottos and lots of dive shops to check out.
